Next week is spirit week! Please join us in these fun days to get in school spirit leading up to our annual auction!
Our Kindergarteners are celebrating Cat in the Hat day today!
Our 1st and 2nd graders spent 2/22/2022 learning all about pairs, estimating, writing with details, and stretching their brains and bodies! They ate and competed with double stuffed Oreos, made pb&j sandwiches to work on their writing skills, and completed various activities in 2 minutes to practice estimating. They also learned that 2/22 was George Washington’s Birthday, and celebrated a belated President’s Day with great conversations about the works of Washington and Lincoln.
STEM Highlight - This week in STEM our students were able to enjoy a Valentine’s STEM project! They made different shapes and projects using tooth pics and gummy hearts! It was a fun and delicious activity!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
As we celebrated Valentine’s Day today, we are reminded that there is no greater love than the love of Christ!
John 15:12 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
No school today due to weather.
Today marked our 100th day of school! Our Kindergarten class celebrated by dressing up like they were 100 years old! They got to do many 100 themed activities throughout the day. They made a 100 piece trail mix, did 100 workouts, scored 100 points in a bean bag toss, made cool creations out of 100 legos, built towers out of 100 cups and so much more! They even got to walk the red carpet to show off their cool new look! It was a fun day celebrating all of the learning they’ve done for the last 100 days!
Haas, aka Brendan Carroll, challenged us today to get “spurred on” this week! We can do this by reading our Bible, praying and having faith in God!
One basketball coach, two championships! The GCS girls and boys basketball teams took home the first place trophies from the Western Michigan Christian school tournament. Way to represent GCS!
Third and Fourth Grade Highlight - This past week the third and fourth graders have been very busy! The third and fourth graders this year have been learning to play recorder through the Link Up Program in association with West Michigan Symphony. They had a music mentor from the West Michigan Symphony come to show them what instrument she plays in the symphony and what role her instrument plays in the symphony. They really enjoyed her playing her flute and Piccolo.
They also spent some time doing some hands on learning of multiplication and division through teddy bears and crafts. Much harder than it looks!
In science they are learning about rocks and minerals that we find on the surface of the earth. They had to make a conglomerate, a kind of rock. We will use this for several experiments later on in our unit. They had fun getting their hands very dirty!
Phys. Ed. Highlight - The purpose of Phys. Ed. at GCS is to educate minds, develop healthy bodies, promote positive attitudes towards lifetime physical activity, fitness, and sports skills, and glorify God for giving us bodies which are capable of incredible things. With a quality physical education program, each student is empowered with the knowledge and skills necessary to make responsible lifestyle choices that directly impact their health and well-being.
Preschool Highlight - The kids in the preschool class had their dad's come spend a morning with them for Daddy Donut Day! The dads spent the morning finding out what it is like in the day of a preschooler at Grant Christian. They were able to do morning worksheets, projects, painting, Bible story time, play time, and they even got their faces shaved! The morning ended with everyone eating donuts. It was a great day!
There will be no bus transportation tomorrow or Friday due to illness at Grant Public School (transportation department). If this causes an issue for you, please contact the office.
To all of our students here at GCS!
We will be closed today due to icy roads.
Snow day again tomorrow. There will be no school Thursday, January 6. We hope to see everyone on Friday!
We will be closed today due to the weather. Have a safe day!
Nelson and Ollie were working hard after school today stuffing auction letters! Can you believe the Grant Christian School auction is less than 3 months away?! Be on the lookout for your letter and invitation to the GCS 2022 Silent/Live Auction on Saturday, March 19, 2022!
What an awesome way to end 2021 at GCS! A huge “Thank You!” to the Kyle Bouwkamp family for transporting all of us to the movies. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and we’ll see you in the New Year!
Reminder: Please send a lunch with your child today.
